They work within a very short range of say 10 feet.

Bluetooth is a standard and a communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption with a short range based on low cost transceiver microchip in each device. Bluetooth makes it possible for these devices to communicate with each other when they are in range. And hence a Bluetooth earphone can easily sense the data transferred to it and make the audio signal clearer. Bluetooth earphones makes you unwired.
